About
Thank you for visiting the website of the Saxon Scope, Langley High School’s online news magazine. The Saxon Scope is released five times per academic year and serves students, faculty and the Langley High School community. Student journalists write, produce, and edit all content on both the online sites and print copies. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to submit material for publication. The newspaper reporting, typesetting, layout, photography and computer graphics designs are also done by the journalism classes at Langley.
This year (2021) the Broadcast Journalism class became coordinating with the Journalism classes to produce more video-based content for the morning announcements and the online site when the class was taken over by Journalism advisor, Christina Mitro. Videos from the Saxon Broadcast can typically be found on the website as well as the class’ YouTube account.
The magazine is financed through subscription costs and advertisements. If you would like to advertise with us, you can contact our business editors, Kaitlin McDowell.
This site was launched in October 2009 and underwent major redesign campaigns in January 2011, as well as October 2019. We use WordPress as our content management system (CMS), and School Newspapers Online (SNO) for the design. Instagram was also introduced during the 2016-2017 school year with the addition of a new editorial post, Social Media Manager.
The Scope can also bring you the latest news when you’re on the go. Visit www.saxonscope.com on any phone, and you will be directed to a mobile version of the site.
You can contact us by mail at 6520 Georgetown Pike, McLean, VA 22101, by phone at (703) 287-2700, or by email at [email protected]. You may also reach out to us via Instagram @saxonscope.
