Don’t Stop Believing isn’t just the name of a famous Journey song. It is also the main concept of Langley’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) organization. The FCA meets Thursdays afterschool for discussions about the importance of maintaining faith in both athletic life and academic life.
“The Fellowship of Christian Athletes helps students of all ages and classes unite and discuss the importance of God in a friendly and productive atmosphere,” said senior member and prayer leader Dylan Kriz. Often, the FCA meetings involve initial prayers with a video presentation on the importance of faith, followed by a discussion of the video’s impact and significance.
An important mission of the FCA is helping its members maintain a strong devotion and sense of connection with God, while balancing the numerous stresses of high school, most importantly in sports.
My faith plays a huge role in athletics but it is hard to balance. I always have to remind myself not to run selfishly for my glory and pride but for the Glory of God. It humbles me,” said senior track runner Esther Jeong. “Also, when I’m running, I repeat ‘I can do all things through Him who gives me strength’ in my head and that always gives me confidence to not give up when it gets really tough.”
Just as many Langley Clubs focus on working and volunteering within the community, The Fellowship of Christian Athletes helps students regardless of age or class build a strong sense of community and faith among its members.
