It was Tuesday morning: the preppy day of spirit week (which I must admit I totally am regardless of the spirit days,) a day of tests, but most importantly, the day of fashion show tryouts. From the moment I set foot in Langley that morning to the very last second before I tried out to be a model, a case of the jitters never failed to leave me. I could immediately feel the hype of the fashion show tryouts all around the halls of Langley. The cafeteria was emblazoned with decorations, from sparkly stars hanging from the ceiling to ribbons galore.
The fashion show has been a tradition at Langley for a while now, and each year, excited Saxons from every grade try out to be a model. This year there was a substantial turnout of almost 150 participants, according to the directors of the show, senior Jenna Weida and junior Lori Kealey.
Everything was just about perfect in the promotion process for the show. Although tryouts were evidently geared towards girls, I was surprised to see that some guys had the bravery to try out as well. Kudos to them! My expectations of the tryouts were just as I expected: loads of fun!
Thoughts such as “what does it take to be a model?” and “how will the judges choose?” were running through my mind all day. Finally, the time came for tryouts. I still remember vividly that I was number 51, and was relieved that I wasn’t one of the first ones to go. As the numbers kept getting called in bulks, my nerves increased with more tension than ever before. When my group was called, I took a deep breath and posed for the judges with every ounce of enthusiasm I had in me.
The judges seemed to like my performance, and I was really pleased that I decided to try out. I’ve always had an eye for fashion, so I decided that the fashion show had to be right up my alley. After the tryouts, I heard the reactions from both sides. The girls were making remarks like “Oh my gosh, that was so fun! I wonder if I made it in!” while the guys were cracking up saying, “Wow that was so ridiculous.” Either way, the fashion show is sure to make an unforgettable statement with its theme Into the Wild.
The next morning, I was extremely antsy and eager to find out my ever so fashionable fate. My friends and I were all in the library together when all of a sudden, my friend ran up to hug me. She was overjoyed, telling me that we both made it in. At that instant I took a sigh of relief. I knew that participating in the fashion show would be a huge commitment, although I also know that it will be well worth the fun and rewarding experience.
