Admit it. We’ve all done it: followed the latest fads in hopes of possessing the coolest thing ever made. It’s evident that any fad won’t be popular for long, however the fun of it all makes for a great story to tell. Take a step back into your childhood to reminisce about the trends that were in, and re-experience the hype that made each product one of a kind.
It seems like ages ago, the time when livestrong bracelets were the greatest creation. There was never a limit as to how many one could wear on their arm. Soon it became a contest, the winner being the one who owned the most. “I remember a guy in second grade had them all the way up his arm,” said freshman Sophie Pfeffer. The sky is the limit as they say, but years later a new kind of bracelet would catch the attention of even more buyers.
They are made of rubber, formed into different shapes, and come in tiny packages. A simple concept it may seem, although its simplicity is what made it worth millions. Sound familiar? This genius creation is none other than Sillybandz. According to freshman Shivali Marwaha, “They amused me in class when I got bored. Then moms started wearing them. And then the fad stopped.” True or not, Sillybandz have forever made their mark in this world, just as quickly as they’ve departed from the popular scene.
Yet out of all of these memory-evoking fads, it would be quite impossible not to recall the product that had consumers of all ages on their toes—literally. Croc shoes became an instant hit as soon as they were released. The widgets available for the shoes allowed each individual to express his own personal style. However, not everyone immediately fell in love with them at first. “The first time I saw them I thought of cleaning lady shoes! But against my better judgment, I got them. Glad they’re gone,” exclaimed freshman Julia Block.
No matter one’s style or age, there will always be new fads to take the place of old ones. Most jump on the bandwagon merely to fit in. However what fun would it really be if everyone appeared to be the same?
