Imagine having to deal with school work, sports and theater performances every month. Ever since she was in elementary school, freshman Jamie Goodson has been fascinated by theatre and performing. Not only is she a singer, but she’s an actress as well.
Goodson has been performing in school plays all her life and has been a loyal chorus participant for as long as she can remember. She has even been fortunate enough to showcase her talents at the Kennedy Center. Goodson utilized her singing capabilities as well as her acting skills to portray her skills in the DC Metro area.
This past year, Jamie has participated in a multitude of plays. In fact, she was Amy in Langley’s fall play, Little Women. When expressing her feelings about how she started her acting career, Goodson said, “My first musical was actually The Wizard of Oz when I was five. I played a munchkin, a flying monkey and a lollipop kid. It was fantastic.”
Ms. Valerie Karasek, Langley’s theatre teacher and Jamie’s mentor, said, “Throughout the Little Women rehearsal process, Jamie was a total professional. Dance steps were learned quickly, harmonies were spot on and character relationships were continuously explored. Goodson embraced the role of Amy and created a complicated and endearing character.”
Goodson also said that she’s excited to pursue an acting and musical career in the future, which she has already started with her performances here and there. “I would love to continue acting and musical theatre, but it is a challenging profession. I definitely want to study performing arts in college, and I’ll end up trying it out, but you never know where the future will take you.”
Freshman Camila Maric, said, “I still remember in the fourth grade, when our elementary school was doing Alice in Wonderland. I didn’t know Jamie at the time, but I did know she had to quit the show to be in something at the Kennedy Center. I’ve been super impressed by her talent ever since. Now she’s one of my great friends!”
Not only has Jamie been hard at work outside of school, she is also performing in Langley’s upcoming One Acts. “My next show will be in another Langley production, a One Act titled Fearful Symmetry that I will be performing both at Langley and at the VHSL One Act competition. It’s a short but very moving play, and I think everyone will love it. The performances of the One Act at Langley are on Friday the 17th of January and Saturday the 18th of January. Come see it!”
