Langley’s theatre department is known for its precise actors and performances, and of course, behind every great show is a great director. Senior Jamie Joeyen Waldorf has been hard at work with theatre a majority of her high school career, especially her senior year. When asked about her involvement and fascination with drama, Waldorf says, “I’ve done theatre in school, community groups, and summer programs since my first performance in seventh grade. I love acting, but have recently delved more seriously into directing and marketing. All three are my passion.”
Jamie is not only involved in the one acts and major performances, she’s president of the Theatre Honor Society as well as being the lead Cappie critic. Ms. Valerie Karasek, Langley’s theatre teacher who has Jamie as a student, says, “Considering the high bar she sets for herself and those around her, I marvel at her dedication and time management skills. For the past four years, Jamie Joeyen-Waldorf has made countless contributions to the success of Saxon Stage, including three Cappies awards in 2013.” Have been working with the drama department for the past 4 years, Jamie says she is “constantly inspired,” by the hard work of the theatre community and she, “always has a blast working with such talented actors and seeing my ideas become a reality on stage.” Jamie’s good friend, senior Madeleine Chalk, expresses her wonder at Waldorf’s involvement with theatre, “Jamie is one of the most active theatre students I know at Langley. She’s always eager to take on new projects, whether she’s directing, publicizing, or acting in a show. She exemplifies a professional.”
Although Jamie has been here for four years, her vision for theatre is beyond just high school. Jamie plans on majoring in theatre, journalism, and integrated marketing communications at Northwestern University in the fall. “I hope to someday work professionally in the theatre world as either an actor or director. Otherwise, I would love to teach theatre at a high school or college level.” Jamie is currently directing Langley’s VHSL one act competition piece, called Fearful Symmetry. Be sure to check it out on Friday, January 17th and Saturday, January 18th!
