Imagine a cause where $125,000 means so much, but is still only a drop in the bucket. Some
causes are so important, so demanding that it takes each and every one of us to act. The
daunting challenges that come with cancer are too big for one to face alone. We all need to stick
together in order to succeed. This long lasting event is known as Relay for Life.
All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.
“I have done Relay for Life since my freshman year, and I could not say better things about the
event. It just keeps getting better and better, “ said Junior Carly Callahan.
It starts at 6 pm and runs all the way through 6 am. The message that Relay for Life is trying
send to its participants is that cancer never sleeps. Along with the big event, they fundraise for
the event to raise even more money; events such as car washes, bake sales, donations,
chipotle, and many more fun activities to add to their funds.
Even though it has its fun moments, it also includes a lot of sadness. There is one part of event
that allows people who have experienced or seen someone with cancer. The participants listen
to these stories and the story creates the unraveling of emotion. By the time the stories are
finished, the crowd is speechless.
“ It so important for people to be able express how they feel and the emotions they are feeling.
This part of the event is so raw and unlike anything I have experienced in my life,” said Junior
Felix Whipple.
Relay for Life creates lasting memories for its participants that will carry with them through their
lives. The amount of money raised could save many lives.
