Do you believe in ghosts? Arthur Kipps was a very rational man and never believed in spirits. That is, until he started seeing a strange woman in black.
In the movie, Arthur Kipps, a widowed lawyer, leaves his four year old son for a few days while he sells an old house. When he reaches the town nearest to the house, he finds that everyone acts very strangely towards him and no one will go near the house. Finally, he finds someone who will take him to the old house despite the warnings of the town’s people. At the house, as he peers through a window, he sees a figure in a black dress. The next day, in the town, while Kipps is at a church, a young girl comes in and dies. Kipps soon learns of the woman who used to live in the house and the tragedy she suffered that causes her to haunt the house and kill children. Soon Kipps learns that he must find a way to stop the woman in black’s wrath in order to protect his own son.
I really liked the setting of the movie; the town and the landscape were very original and unlike anything I have seen before, which made it very interesting. I also thought Daniel Radcliffe acted very well. Not once did I think of him as “Harry Potter,” because he acted very convincingly as Arthur Kipps. However, although the plot had some originality that I liked, the basis of the plot was very cliché. The plot was also lost when some scary scenes happened multiple times making it seem like the whole point of the movie was to see how many times the movie watchers would jump.
The movie was quite touching at times because despite the scary music and creepy scenes, it showed how strong the bond is between a parent and a child. So if you like movies that don’t necessarily have a lot of plot but continuously make you jump, Woman in Black is the movie to see.
