I watched all nine movies that were up for this year’s Best Picture award. While many of the movies would have deserved to win the Oscar, I definitely felt that The Artist deserved the award.
It was the journey of a famous actor in silent films who refused to take part in talkies (movies with sound) and how his life turned upside down. He helped make an actress extremely popular and she left him in the dust. Eventually he lost his job and took to drinking and suicidal thoughts. I will not tell you more because it may ruin the movie if I go further.
In the movie theater there were mainly older couples, so I felt a little out of place. However when the movie started I was extremely glad I had gone. I personally loved it, and the plot was great. The actors did a great job. It was a silent movie (no sound), when people find that out it discourages them to go. It being a silent movie made the movie experience great. The actors were forced to have extremely emotional facial expressions and they were extremely amusing.
The only bad aspect of the movie was that at times it was difficult to understand what was going on. If you went to the bathroom or out for more snacks, you would be lost for ten minutes when you finally got back to the theater. However, the movie would flash phrases on the screen every once in a while, which was very helpful.
I have not seen any movie like The Artist in my entire life. It was new and fresh. I extremely recommend watching it.
