Lost kingdoms, singing dwarves, tons of adventure, what could be better?
The movie The Hobbit is based on the book that is a part of the Lord of the Rings collection, and documents Bilbo Baggins’s tale of his adventures.
In the movie, the young Hobbit reluctantly sets off on an adventure to help a group of dwarves and their king reclaim their lost kingdom from a dragon.
I had mixed feelings going into the theater. I had no background knowledge of the movie since I hadn’t read the book so I wasn’t sure what to expect. However, I had loved the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy which gave me hope.
Usually for me, going to see a 3-D movie is like paying for a headache, however seeing The Hobbit in 3-D was like going to a different world. The special effects and graphics were amazing and made me feel like I was actually walking into the Elf kingdom of Rivendale or trudging through the cold mountains dodging rocks thrown by rock giants. In addition to this, the movie had a perfect mix of humor, sentimental parts, and adventure.
It was very long but not a second of it was boring. Each new problem that arose in the plot was equally interesting and I was disappointed when the end came.
I had gone into the movie not knowing what to expect but I came out extremely impressed. It is different than most movies in that it didn’t have lots of good looking actors and romance, but the fact that I liked without all of those conventional aspects says a lot. Although this movie may seem like a nerd’s dream (and it is), it is fantastic and I definitely recommend it.
