I am not a fan of supernatural teen romances.
I can’t take things like Twilight and Vampire Diaries seriously. So when I first saw the trailer for Warm Bodies, which appeared to be a romance between a zombie and a human, it seemed utterly ridiculous, way more ridiculous than any other supernatural romance that I had encountered.
Warm Bodies is about a zombie boy named “R” who is lonely and bored of being dead. One day when he and his zombie “friends” are preying on some humans, he sees a girl, Julie, and decides to save her.
He brings her back to his home, aka an abandoned plane, and keeps her safe by not letting her out, hoping to befriend her. Despite her initial fear of him they quickly become friends and although “R” doesn’t want her to leave, eventually she insists on him letting her go home.
They soon discover that “R” is becoming more and more human due to their friendship which could be the key to curing the rest of the zombies.
The reason that I saw this movie was because I thought that the concept was ridiculous and I love making fun of bad movies.
After seeing the movie, the concept is still ridiculous to me, but my overall opinion has changed. It was cute and hilarious which made it impossible to dislike. The main character “R” was so relatable as a lost teenager that I couldn’t help but identify with him.
It had the perfect mix of action, romance and comedy that made every minute entertaining.
This movie is definitely not for everyone but I recommend it to those who like cute and quirky comedies.
