It’s a classic novel that almost every high schooler reads, and now it’s a major motion picture starring the one and only Leonardo Dicaprio.
When I sat down for the midnight premiere of “The Great Gatsby” I was not sure what to expect, but when I left I wanted to go party with Jay Gatsby. The movie’s 3D effects and animation helped reflect the crazy way of life that made the roaring 1920’s.
Actress Carey Mulligan depicted Daisy Buchanan like a sweet innocent girl with a rebellious and mysterious side. This only added to the intense and raw relationship between Daisy and Gatsby. The one screen chemistry between Gatsby and Buchanan made me believe that they were actually real, and that East Egg and West Egg were real places.
Another important factor of the movie was the depiction of The Valley of Ashes. The Valley of Ashes in the movie is exactly how I imagined it to be in the book. The intense, gray, dirty dumping grounds of the industrial poor was brought to life.
Lastly, but surely not the least, are the clothes and style that were seen in the movie. Daisy’s gowns and short haircut made me want to go out and look for a flapper dress. Her amazing outfits along with her high-end way of life helped capture just how wealthy and entitled she really is. On the other end, the men in the movie were looking their finest. Boys should take notes on Gatsby and Nick’s attire. Every girl loves a well-dressed man.
All in all, this movie was worth seeing and the book is definitely worth reading. The book is a classic, and after Dicaprio’s and Mulligan’s acting the movie might be as well.
