Every Valentines day, people around the world buy chocolates and flowers for their loved ones, school kids pass out candies, parties are hosted among single friends. Though, it’s almost became an American tradition to have some sappy romance film be released on the same day; whether it’s Valentines Day with Ashton Kutcher, The Vow with Channing Tatum, or now- ‘Endless Love’, with Alex Pettyfer (all super attractive men who are really the only reason to watch the movie). Personally, I love movies, and I love sales on chocolate. What I don’t like though, is something all too routined and overrated; sappy romance films.
Endless Love is your typical romance movie. Wealthy girl from a noble family falls in love with a bad boy, father doesn’t approve, boy does something great, father approves, happily ever after. It may seem like that sequence can never get old, but personally it’s so boring. Although teenage girls left the cinema with tear streaked cheeks and mumbled words of their love for the main actor, I was left bored and upset that I wasted my money.
The film not only had an incredibly cliché plot, there was a lack of humour and super predictable events, not to mention that it put the original version with Brooke Shields to shame. It was unintentionally silly (in terms of scenes that were meant to be deep and romantic but really just awkward and uncomfortable) and just downright boring.
To anyone considering watching the movie, I highly recommend you save your money and stay home. I mean seriously, how many more Romeo and Juliet knock off’s can we make?
