In present day society, our entertainment within the television industry usually revolves around supernatural creatures, love triangles, or common household drama. So really, a show about Ancient Greece may not seem that interesting. However, after many hours of searching through Netflix for a new television show, I wandered upon Atlantis, a show about a man living in modern day 2013, Jason, who travels to the lost city of Atlantis to find his father and discover his destiny in Ancient Greece.
Upon watching the first episode, I was hooked. Not only does the show provide a good sense of drama mixed with humor, it gives you an insight to what life was like back then. (And let’s not forget to mention that Jason is super charming) The show portrays notable Greek elements and figures, such as worship of the Greek Gods, the consulting of the Oracle, King Minos and Queen Pasiphae, and of course,
Jason’s adorable best friends; Hercules and Pythagoras (Yes, the triangle guy.) Not only is the major conflict a reason to keep watching, the chemistry between Jason and Princess Ariadne keeps you wanting more. The characters all have unique personalities and humorous friendships that hit you right in the feels (which is kind of annoying sometimes, it’s like, OH MY GOD, STOP BEING SO CUTE.) Especially Pythagoras, who plays a vital role.
If you’ve ever thought you’re too cool to spend some time learning about history, this show will prove you wrong. So get inside, plop down on to your comfy couch, and start Atlantis (On BBC every Saturday night at 9!)
