For months, people across the nation have been jittering in anticipation for the arrival of Divergent , an action thriller based off of the bestseller by Veronica Roth. Divergent is an adventure movie based in a dystopian society where people are divided into “factions” depending on their virtues.
The film stars Shailene Woodley as main character Tris Prior, or better known by the term Divergent, and Theo James as Tobias, or Four. Personally, as a fan of thrillers, I was very excited to start Divergent. However, I found the book to be rather uninteresting and not well written, so it definitely wasn’t at the top of my favorites list. The plot was predictable and it dragged on, so I didn’t understand why the book itself was so popular.
Despite my un-interest in the book, I was excited to watch the movie. The trailer looked action packed and some of my favorite actors were starring in it. However, my excitement was short lived. The film was just as dull as the book. It was nothing spectacular, and it put Woodley’s exceptional acting skills to shame. There was really nothing to look forward to, (besides Tris and Four’s adorable moments of chemistry) and I just found myself bored. The film still has two sequels to come, yet I didn’t find myself excited or even slightly interested in them. The film was basically a 22nd Hunger Games, a waste of time and money. To anyone considering watching Divergent, I suggest you save yourself some money and go read a real book.
