The story that captured all of Langley’s heart over the 2012 summer is finally coming to the big screen. On June 6th, The Fault in Our Stars will be premiering starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort. The story follows a boy and girl battling cancer that meet in a support group and grow closer with their similar illnesses.
As TFIOS was the Langley Read in 2012, the movie will be widely viewed by students at Langley. “I’m excited to see it because I’ve actually read this book, but it’s so sad,” sophomore Mikayla Allen said. Due to their life-threatening illnesses, the characters are constantly unsure of their fates, becoming a key conflict in the story.
The characters are a little usually insightful when it comes to literature, leading to their adventures in Amsterdam. They go out looking for an author of their favorite book called An Imperial Affliction. “Their story is really inspiring and although it’s fictional it makes you think about bigger issues like cancer,” sophomore Stephanie Sipple said.
Although not sure if it’ll live up to the expectations set by the book, fans are already building tears from the trailer.
