After the heartbreaking season three finale, viewers had high hopes for Homeland’s season four release on October 5th; unfortunately, these hopes were not fulfilled. Homeland is a complex series about a bipolar CIA agent named Carrie Mathison who is in Pakistan as the station chief. Her mission in season four is to take out low-profile terrorist, Haissam Haqqani. After a failed drone strike, Carrie develops a dangerously close relationship with Haissam Haqqani’s nephew, Ibrahim, while pretending to be a journalist. Ibrahim is a naïve college medical student who is oblivious of the trap Carrie has put him in; and the CIA is not aware of Carrie’s actions which put her in a dangerous position. But as Carrie digs herself into a deeper hole, her old friend and ex-CIA director, Saul Berenson, finds himself in dirty business. Berenson spots Haqqani at the airport and attempts to alert Carrie, but she never responds to Saul and suddenly, it is too late.
I have been an avid Homeland fan for years now, and honestly, the fourth season has been a major disappointment. After the tear-jerking season three finale, the series was forced to set a completely new stage and abandon everything Homeland used to be. The first four episodes of this season were filled with a minimal amount of shocking moments; and a maximum amount of scene setting and character introduction. Although the storyline has begun to take a turn for the better, considering Homeland’s history, this season has been a great let down. You can watch homeland at 9p.m. on Sundays on Showtime.
