Spanish teacher Elizabeth Rosario is in charge of the program, which has been a Langley tradition for the past six years. Mrs. Rosario says that there is no specific request for any certain type of toy, just “new for any age.” Mrs. Rosario says that the mainly-Hispanic families use the Falls Church-based organization these toys will benefit, Hogar Hispano, for “problems and services, such as programs for immigrants and children.”
The organization also mentioned a need for food and daily necessities. However, it is “hard to get students to donate goods, since we advertise it as a toy drive,” says Mrs. Rosario.
The toy drive last year produced great results, with Mrs. Rosario estimating the total number of toys received to be “at least three hundred.”
She says the turnout this year has not been as good. But she still remains hopeful that this year will produce even more toys than last year.
Students can drop off their toys (or goods!) in Mrs. Rosario’s room, 252, even though “students end up dropping them off in other Spanish rooms, too.” However, you don’t have to be taking Spanish to donate. The toy drive has already started, and ends Dec. 16.
