If the fee is not paid, students are still required to take the exam for the AP class or classes they are enrolled in. The unpaid seventy-five dollars will then become a “financial obligation” and may result in disciplinary consequences, according to the FCPS website. This spells bad news for students hoping to escape these dreaded exams by avoiding payment of the fee.
AP World History student sophomore Laura Roman says the fees are “kind of ridiculous. There are so many other things I could be spending that money on rather than a difficult test.”
However, fellow sophomore and AP World History student Maddy Weingast says that “the fee doesn’t really matter to me. I’m already taking the class, and I want to get credit for it, so I’d pay almost anything to take the exam.”
Fees must be paid within thirty days of receiving the bill. Answers to frequently asked questions about the exams and the fees can be found on the FCPS website.
