When you think of Jammin’ Java, you might imagine sipping a cup of coffee, listening to a variety of acoustic music. On Jan. 8, Langley became a part of the flavor, through its “Coffeehouse Concert” hosted by the Theatre Honor Society.
The students were excited to be able to showcase their talents in a different venue. Distinct rock bands, tranquil duets of ballads, comedy acts, and even some solo performances pleased the crowd as they enjoyed Jammin Java’s delectable goodies.
There was a large turnout at the event. “The Theatre Honor Society raised over $500,” said senior Tess Higgins.
“We wanted to really recreate the outlet of a ‘coffee house’ by utilizing more instruments and a more acoustic tone,” said freshman Rachel Mayman. “We definitely exposed ourselves to an entirely different type of performance.
A few of the acts performed at Jammin’ Java were Junior Danielle D’arcee who sang “I Know Where I’ve Been” inspired by Hairspray. Seniors Tess Higgins and Jay Mamana sung “Hallelujah” with Tess at the piano and Jay providing vocals and guitar. Mamana also sang “Mama You’ve Been on my Mind” and “Goodbye,” naming himself the crowd favorite. The band Cashmere’s Topia sang its original song “Wonderland.” Senior Nicole Kang sang “Breathe” from In the Heights.
“This whole experience was so enlightening. It allowed us to express ourselves in an entirely different venue altogether,” said sophomore Victoria Tovig. “I would definitely do it again if I could.”
