Originally, it was just a small concert between the Langley Wind Symphony and the visiting band from West Genessee high school. But, in honor of band member Randy Liang, it became much more.
Between performances by both bands, an art show, donation collections, t-shirt sales, and a karate performance, it was a busy night.
As just another example of how the local community had given back to help Liang, a local artist had many paintings for sale. Half of the proceeds when directly to the Liang family. Meanwhile, members of the symphony band stood at the door to collect donations before the musical portion of the night. Between these two efforts, over $5,000 was raised, according to Langley band director Mr. Andrew Gekoskie.
During the intermission between the musical performances, Liang’s younger brother Derek and his karate class displayed their moves for the audience. Both younger and more advanced members of the Professional Martial Arts Academy did impressively well. Their moves alone would have won over the crowd, but were made even more appealing by the “cuteness” factor.
With a higher than average attendance, the night was a success on multiple accounts: for the bands, for the community, and most importantly, for Randy.
