Last week, the Russian students embarked on an adventure like no other. Preceding their trip to Russia, a few Russian students actively participated in a competition of literary and comprehensive achievement.
Otherwise known as the Russian Olympiad, the competition tested students in their knowledge of Russian geography, literature, and language.
“You really get a chance to immerse yourself in Russian,” said senior Taylor Weatherly. “Unlike a typical classroom, you learn about more than just grammar and speech.”
The Russian Olympiad consists of three components: a personal account of the student to a handful of judges, a reading of a couple of short stories in Russian followed by a reading test, and a section about the geographical points, rivers, and cities of Russia.
The entire competition was about five to ten minutes in duration, allowing the rest of time for the Russian students to bond.
“I definitely became much closer with the Russian students through this competition,” said Weatherly.
