It appears Langley will be hitting the big screen.
Last Thursday, a producer at Atlas Entertainment (the same company that made The Dark Knight and Get Smart), optioned the rights to Langley High, a soon to be screenplay based on a graphic novel written by the exclusive producer of The Hangover movies.
Though the graphic novel has not been published yet and is therefore not available to the public, it’s about a boy who attends a school called Langley High, 1.7 miles away from the CIA, where the boy’s father works. When the father is kidnapped by Russians, his son teams up with one of his teachers at Langley and saves the father.
The only real connection Langley, our school, has to this fictional Langley High, is the location and our name. But that’s not saying this isn’t the coolest thing that’s happened to us in a while. While most students are excited about the publicity, senior Matt Kielcopf posted in a comment responding to an article that has been circulating among students and alum that he “takes offense to this. Langley High School has nothing to do with the CIA beside its location… I’d rather not have my school shown to the country as a secret agent school.”
In a recent poll, only 21% of students said they would be offended by such a film. Though the premiere date will be far in the future, a movie about Langley would be interesting, to say the least.
