Last weekend over 700 seniors from all over Virginia auditioned for a coveted position in the VMEA Honors Choir. Langley rose to the top yet again, with 10 delegates and two alternates selected, a number greater than any other school’s. This audition and achievement represents years of hard work, focus and dedication from the students.
“I’ve been singing in church choirs and in school since before fifth grade. Singing is what I love to do. Making honors choir has made me so happy…I did the best I could and it was all up to the judges,” said senior Mia Engelhardt.
“Going into the audition, I felt fine and confident about the song. I wasn’t nervous at all, for once,” said senior Rachel Street.
In addition to chorus, we also have an exceptionally talented orchestra. Freshman Alyssa Katahara (harp), juniors Michelle Chiu (violin), Constance Chu(cello), and Matt Cooley (bass, 1st alternate), and seniors Sae Hashimoto (percussion) and Laura Grems (percussion) were accepted to participate in the 2011 Senior Regional Orchestra festival. These students beat out hundreds of students in the area. They are now eligible to compete for positions in the Virginia All-State program next spring.
