At times it can seem that the leadership class, which is made up of students in the SGA, is all about having fun, preparing for pep rallies and raising school spirit. But this semester, these kids are planning on doing more then just helping around the school – they are going to help out around the community.
In a couple of weeks, the leadership class is planning on taking a field trip to volunteer at Jill’s House, an organization in McLean that provides “provides respite for children with intellectual disabilities and their families,” according to the Jill’s House website. Prior to the trip, the Leadership students will undergo training in order to better prepare themselves.
“It’s a great way to help out around the community,” said sophomore Jackie Ryan. “I’m looking forward to lending a hand.”
This isn’t the first service trip that the SGA has gone on. According to junior Lucy Gunter, the SGA “tries to help out around the community every semester.”
In addition, many students who are part of leadership also reach out and help the community on their own. Senior Tiffany Lok has already visited Jill’s House many times and is looking forward to taking the rest of SGA along to “hang out and spend time with the kids.”
