All year, Model UN has been preparing for its biggest and most important event, the Philadelphia ILMUNC conference on Jan. 26. For the four day conference, the team will be representing Kenya and China in a simulated United Nations conference with other students from all over the country.
“It’s the highlight of the year and to be representing a power like China is really exciting,” said Secretary General (president) senior Sun Park. However, getting picked to go to the conference is a selective process. “Basically if you do well in the mock conferences within the club and the minor conferences prior, you will be more likely to be selected. It also goes a long way to show enthusiasm and a desire to go up and make an argument,” said Park.
At the team’s last conference at the College of William and Mary, the team only took 36 of their 55 active members. The conference provided a good starting point for the team to organize their arguments in preparation for Philidelphia, where they will debate important developments in current affairs and pertinent issues around the globe.
