On Wednesday, Mar. 28, Langley students left for the much anticipated yearly Russian trip. “Kapitan has talked about the trip since the first day of school. For the past two weeks he has mentioned it at least once a class,” said junior Rosie Mahoney.
This year’s Russian trip has one of the smallest attendances the Russian program has had for years. Usually around 20 kids go to Russia every year, whereas this year it is only 12 students.
Nevertheless, students are still just as excited as in previous years. They will visit St. Petersburg and Moscow, two cities about which the students have been learning for nearly a year or more.
Although many kids did not take advantage of the trip to Russia, many wish they did. “I kind of wish I had gone on the Russian spring break trip because it would have given me the opportunity to experience the culture I’ve been studying for the past two years,” said junior Melissa Aronson.
However, students who have gone to Russia in the past have had mixed feelings of the trip. “It was a good experience, but it was a little bit of a culture shock and I didn’t fit in very well with the Russians,” said senior Sara Fultz.
The students on the trip return Monday, Apr. 9.
