Langley Band director Mr. Gekoskie is moving on to teach elementary students. After being on medical leave for most of this year, Mr. Gekoskie only stayed a few weeks at Langley before accepting a full time teaching position at Chesterbrook Elementary School for the remainder of the year. His last day as Langley Band Director was Apr. 23. A long-term substitute will take his place for the rest of the year.
Band students have had many disruptions so far this year. Mr. Kirchenbauer, the long-term substitute who was supposed to stay for the remainder of the year, resigned once Mr. Gekoskie decided to come back. After just a couple weeks, Mr. Gekoskie is now leaving and another substitute will take his place. Due to the schedule complications, the band was unable to travel to Nashville, Tennessee as scheduled.
As of now, the Langley High School administration is interviewing potential substitute teachers. In August, they will begin to interview for a full-time, permanent band director.
“Community input will be a vital part of the application, interviewing, and selection process,” said Principal Matt Ragone. He also mentioned that he looks forward to hearing the band parents’ suggestions.
