Langley’s Eco Club transformed the courtyard into an area filled with native plants.
Teachers can bring classes out during nice weather, especially science classes who can use the garden as a lesson.
“The eco-club wants Langley to become an eco-school,” said Eco-club sponsor Ms. Deanna DenHartog.
An eco-school uses aspects of the environment to educate its students on the environment that surrounds them.
The gardens in the courtyard will educate Langley students on plants that are native to Virginia.
“Little labels that display the plants’ names will be placed in the courtyard,” said senior and Eco Club co-captain Molly Bremer.
AP Environmental Science classes also took the time to make a book that explains every plant in the courtyard.
Many students are extremely pleased with the new plants in the courtyard because they make the courtyard more enjoyable.
“The gardens add beauty to the courtyard, and they make it more fun to eat lunch out there,” said sophomore Amanda Lund.
With the garden full of new plants and new recycling, Langley has taken an important step towards becoming more ecofriendly.
