It’s not enough to simply pour some vinegar into a vat of baking soda. Participants of the science fair develop questions about heat absorption, solar panels, and psychological development and test their hypothesis’.
The annual event that stresses hundreds of students brave enough to take an advanced science class will be held on January 24th. Although around 150 Langley students will present their science fair project to their science class, a fraction of them (about 22) will advance to the regional science fair, according to Physics teacher Mr. Robert Culbertson.
All honor or A.P. science students have been preparing since October for their science fair project which takes up a predominant percentage of their final grade. Ninth grader Michael Lam said, “The science fair is about proving a question using your experiment; for example, my project is to prove which colors absorb the most heat.”
A select number of students per class will have the chance to advance their project further than just their class, with the chance to claim national glory.
From regionals, the first place winner will automatically go on to the international science fair , but the second and third place winners may have to go to states instead, and the top two at states will also go to internationals, where students compete for hometown glory,” said Physics teacher Mr. Culbertson.
