Today at 2:40 pm shots were fired on Capitol Hill resulting in a lockdown at the Capitol. The shots were a result of a car chase down Constitution Avenue after a woman ran into a police car, triggering its airbag and severely injuring its driver. She continued speeding, running red light after red light with police cars in close pursuit (CNN). Finally, when police surrounded her when she tried to ram a Capitol gate, the shooting commenced. The female suspect was shot and killed (ABC 7 News). According to Fox News, police found a young child in her car too.
During this time, the House of Representatives was in session and was forced to call a recess in response to the situation (Fox News). The Capitol was on lockdown for about an hour (Fox News). The scene is still being investigated.
