The best selling historical fiction novel and theater production is now making an appearance as this year’s fall performance. The show will run from November 14th to the 16th at 7:30 pm. “It’s a great musical, we have a phenomenal cast!” said director and Langley drama teacher, Ms. Valerie Karasek.
The famous story, written by Louisa May Alcott, revolves around the lives, loves, and internal struggles of the four very different March sisters. It offers an insight of four extraordinary personalities and how they handle independent battles during the American Civil War while living in Concord, Massachusetts.
Due to the high demand of the book when it was first released, the number of copies sold is undetermined. However, the story is known as a worldwide phenomenon and heart-felt tale. The novel originally sparked interest amongst a large audience because of the time period it was written. It educates readers about the civil war whilst also entertaining with the family themed plot. The story is one of the most iconic classics of time.
Not only do the main cast members have a lot to do with long rehearsals and script memorizing, the technical crew has been hard at work to create the scenery for the play.
Senior, Katie Studabaker, who is stage manager for the performance said, “there’s a lot more than has to happen backstage than onstage!”
When asked how they were preparing for the play, sophomore Bridget Fitzgerald, who’s playing the role of the Hag, said,“preparing for “Little Women” has been quite fun, but very busy since we have little time and the process itself is very time consuming. We have been able to do it since Doc has been getting us up to par with singing and all the music involved, and Ms. K is busy with blocking and rehearsing and everything. But you know what, you should all come down and see the play because it’s going to be phenomenal.”
With the cast and technical crew hard at work, many Langley students are excited for the upcoming performance. Freshman Sydney Copp, a theater student who’s playing the role of Amy’s understudy in the performance, said, “I’m really excited about being in the play because it’s a really fun musical- all the music is awesome and the characters are all so creative!”
Freshman Shannon Gahramani added, “I loved the movie and hope the play is just as good in comparison!”
