The room went silent, kids were shocked, no one knew what to say. On the morning of, Tuesday, December 9th, my math class was the first class to hear that our beloved Langley High School teacher Mr. Pitkewicz had accepted a non-teaching related job for a company in Herndon.
As soon as the news sunk in some students started crying. Every student I have ever talked to that has been lucky enough to have Mr. Pitkewicz for a teacher, only talked highly about him. Sophomore Katie Bellaschi couldn’t say enough good things about him, “Mr. Pitkewicz is so much more than just an amazing teacher. He cares about all of his students and makes an effort to build positive relationships with them. I think I could speak for all of his students when I say that we’ll deeply miss him and all of his corny little jokes”. Mr. Pitkewicz’s teaching style was a perfect combination of making kids laugh and having fun, while also teaching them the fundamentals of algebra. But, it wasn’t just his jokes and his teaching, he created relationships with all of his students, forming a bond that could not compare to students relationships with other teachers.
Once the news spread that he was leaving, kids immediately came running into his class, not believing the news they had just heard. Junior Gabby Peker was shocked, saying, “I’ll never forget his hilarious jokes! He’s such an amazing teacher and I’m so sad he’s leaving”. He will certainly be missed and Langley High School wishes him the best of luck at his new job.
