The stage is set. The judges are ready. And Langley is poised to dominate. Langley’s esteemed theatre program has had numerous successes recently, one of them being the cast’s regional advancement in the One Act competition. The One Act competition starts at the district level, where schools from around the county perform their individual short plays. Langley’s theatre team produced, “13 ways to Screw Up Your College Interview,” and, after the results of the district competitions were revealed, Langley did exceedingly well, advancing to regionals on February 7th as a runner up to Yorktown.
During the district competition, the judges recognized the talents of sophomore Jamie Goodson who won the “Overall Outstanding Actress Award”. While Langley was unable to advance after the regional competition, the play’s student director, senior Hannah Fletcher, said, “the whole cast of ‘13 Ways to Screw Up Your College Interview’ and our two techs, helped to make the production run so smoothly and helped to make the production have a successful run.”
Advancing so far into the competition was no easy feat. Over three and a half months of intense writing, rehearsing, and blocking went into the play. “It was an incredible honor working with such a talented cast of peers…We are a very blessed theatre department,” said Fletcher. According to Fletcher, the importance character development, as well as a non-judgemental environment to rehearse in, allowed for the overall success of “13 Ways to Screw Up Your College Interview.”
