Langley students spent a week in the Adirondacks for YoungLife camp
The sun rises over the Adirondacks and peers over Saranac Lake in New York. Nestled in a corner of the expansive lake lies Saranac Village, a YoungLife camp. In July, over 30 Langley students traveled to the Adirondacks for a week of summer camp. All of the students went to camp through an organization called YoungLife- a Christian based organization for teens that has a group at Langley.
Younglife has over 20 camps in the United States and even more internationally. The camp is about, “getting away from the pressures of everyday life, having fun with friends and their Young Life leaders, and hearing the message of God’s love in terms they can understand.”
YoungLife camp is different from a typical summer camp. YoungLife groups come to camp together, so campers are with their friends from their school and area for the week. In addition, the “camp counselors” are local YoungLife leaders who stay with students throughout the year.
“My favorite part of camp was getting to know people that I’ve known most of high school, but was never close with before. After camp was over, everyone was still so close and shared a connection,” said Stacy McDaniel.
The camp provides campers with topnotch facilities and activities. From paddle boarding, to kayaking, to soaring high above Saranac Lake in a parasail, the YoungLife offers an array of waterfront activities to choose from. In addition, there is no shortage of sports to enjoy: beach volleyball, water volleyball, basketball, soccer, baseball, and Frisbee Golf. Aside from the enjoyment of the resort-like water front, there is a program throughout the week to teach teenagers alike about their Christian faith.
“YoungLife camp was the best week of my life because not only did I have an insanely fun time running around the camp, swimming in the lake, and singing my heart out during club every night, I grew in fellowship with my friends and leaders, and strengthened my relationship with Christ,” said Senior Julia Stucky.
“I got to spend so much time with so many amazing people doing amazing things,” said Junior Mark Wilson.
