Last Saturday, the Saxons took Washington, D.C.
On Constitution Avenue, the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium shined as Langley students began to file in, ready for a night of dancing and fun.
With security allowing girls to check their heels, sore feet was one less thing to worry about. Upon entering, guests were greeted by colorful lights illuminating a high-ceilinged room, complete with couches, clothed tables and at the front of the room, the main attraction- the dance floor.
Drinks, sweets, and even burgers were all on the menu at Prom. It was nice to have the opportunity to take a break from dancing the night away and have a quick snack on hors d’oeuvres that were surprisingly delicious.
During the first part of the night, guests danced to music played by a DJ. The band Every Avenue followed, and they probably would have sounded good, had their mikes been working. Following Every Avenue was a fairytale proclamation, the crowning of prom court. Senior couple Jeffrey Solomon and Jenna Bugge were named king and queen and juniors Ryan Natal and Alicia Underhill were named prince and princess. Even with the biggest announcement of the night over, the night was far from over.
When the clock struck 11, the featured band took the stage. We the Kings opened with the upbeat “Skyway Avenue”, and ended with their most popular single, “Check Yes Juliet.” Even though this year’s performance wasn’t as raunchy as Shwayze’s at last year’s prom, by the time We the Kings had finished, everyone left with a night full of music, dancing and fun behind them.
