Ever since I joined Facebook, I was hooked. It has pictures, statuses, wall posts, chat, messaging- basically whatever you want, Facebook has. You can learn anything you want about a person from their profile without going through the trouble of actually talking to them in person(#stalkersparadise). For awhile I thought Facebook was the best, and the only worthwhile social network out there
Recently, though, and to the dismay and embarrassment of all my friends, I also discovered the joys of Twitter. I never thought I’d like this other network since it’s essentially just the status portion of Facebook, and I rarely post statuses anyways.
However, Twitter opened up a whole new world (#Aladdin) for me, and I’ve become hopelessly addicted (#hashtaggersanonymous). Believe it or not, it’s a much faster and more direct way to stay updated with your friends. On Twitter, you don’t feel bad about posting statuses frequently since that’s the main feature of the site. As Junior Vivian Louthan said, “you can update your Twitter more than Facebook without feeling annoying, and it’s not all about “Likes” like Facebook is.”
On Twitter, there’s a 140 character limit, so you don’t have to deal with lengthy, annoying chain statuses or paragraphs of song lyrics. You can follow your favorite celebrities, too, making it ideal for keeping up with the enrapturing lives of the “Jersey Shore” cast (#GTL) and even Kim Kardashian (#Bible).
Twitter is more about sharing your thoughts rather than your entire life. Plus, the lack of pictures is preferable for those of us who are not photogenic in the least (#deerinheadlights). You can still post photos, but they aren’t a central focus of your profile.
With the recent changes in Facebook, especially the forever-scrolling newsfeed and profile format, I now prefer Twitter even more. Junior Kelly Strader confirmed the new layout is confusing and annoying: “you’re stalking on chat while you’re stalking on the news feed—it just doesn’t make sense!”
Twitter is less confusing and bothersome than Facebook, and much more relaxed. I don’t need a social network mapping out my entire life. I prefer a more minimalist layout that doesn’t bombard me with constant updates. Both Facebook and Twitter are excellent social networking sites and the best ways to waste time (#foreverprocrastinating). For me, though, Twitter is tops…at least for the moment. So, I’ve shared my #twisdom with you, now #tweetatmeLHS @rileyec94.
