Ever wondered what life would be like without the hassle of schoolwork and sports? For many, it’s easy to imagine: chilling with your friends over the weekend instead of studying, going to the Friday night game instead of worrying about a huge essay due on Monday, and most importantly, just being pepped instead of prepped.
“Whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed with schoolwork, I grab my iPod and take a walk outside. Taking a break in a different environment almost always helps me calm down. By the time I’m done, I can more easily focus on my studies,” says junior Nicole Azmoudeh. Many students prefer listening to their iPod while completing their homework to alleviate some of the stress off their shoulders.
Other Saxons have managed to juggle copious amounts of homework and studying while frequently practicing on a Langley team every week. The volleyball team at Langley High is said to have girls with the highest grade averages out of all sports teams. “Time management and organization is key; I try to be as productive as I can during Saxon Time. I take advantage of any opportunities to study or do homework before and after practice so I don’t fall behind,” says freshman volleyball player Sarah Haque.
Adding to students’ stress is the pressure of being prepared for the future, whether it be a career or college. “I plan to go to Virginia Tech for vet school. To get there, I [have to] study hard and focus on my math and sciences,” says freshman Lily Barber. Freshman Hannah Fletcher is also working hard to try to achieve her dream of being a director. “Being a director is something that I have always envisioned doing ever since I was 10 years old. I love writing scripts and directing plays that I write for my friends and me. No one knows how to direct a production better than the one who wrote it,” she explains.
At Langley High, everyone is a director in a sense. Your passion will surely guide you far, leading you to the perfect road. Soon, before you know it, you’ll be the star of the biggest production you’ve ever known—your future.
