After hours of primping, a process I could liken to peeling back the layers of an onion, Le Cirque finally arrived.
This year’s prom was, at least for me, an adventure at every turn, but an adventure I naturally would never want to have missed out on.
The dance itself was extremely well put-together and organized. I’d like to chiefly take a moment to acknowledge the food.
For those of us who dance robotically even when no one else is doing the robot move, having good food at prom was a key concern. This way, I could shuffle around to different groups of people, ask if they’d eaten food yet, slyly pretend I hadn’t, and go back to the food without having to dance (a strategy I have clearly put to use myriad of times).
The cake pops were phenomenal–when around the cake pops table, I was similar to Megan from “Bridesmaids” with the puppies at the bridal shower (something I am not necessarily proud of but will embrace nonetheless).
The chocolate fountain was also a hit, but I mean, when can you ever go wrong with melted chocolate that you use to drizzle over other delicious items? And the frozen yogurt bar just really put the display over the top.
As for not having a performer this year, I really don’t think it made much of a difference.
I personally like having a DJ more because you can hear a variety of music. If you don’t like the prom performer one year, you’re out of luck, because they’re only going to play their own songs. Plus, the DJ this year was actually talented and played some great remixes.
I was pleasantly surprised at the actual amount of people at the dance because I figured it would be akin to homecoming, in which members of the SGA constitute a large majority of the attendees.
Most of these people were actually dancing too, another surprise that defied the traditional Langley school-sponsored dance experience.
The Le Cirque theme seemed intriguing based on the intricate chocolate prom ticket I received weeks ago, but I didn’t really see the theme prevalent throughout the dance, aside from the fire juggler that greeted us upon entrance.
Though not necessarily cohesive to the theme, I found the decor and the atmosphere both inviting and stunning.
All in all, Le Cirque for me was a bit of a circus from start to finish (with me playing the part of the Bearded Lady, naturally).
But what is any high school experience without chaos? Hats off to the prom committee for doing a fabulous job.
