For ages, Langley students have been characterized as, rich, lazy, spoiled and arrogant.
We need to stand up for ourselves.
“No! The stereotypes that are given to Langley students are not true. People only like to recognize the bad stereotypes,” said junior Patrick Kearney.
A lot of Langley haters are jealous people who attend lesser schools. Zach Windsor, a student at Battlefield High School, said that “Langley students are rich, snobby kids who get whatever they want.”
It’s true that Langley is ridiculed because of some students who choose to act out and enforce unfair stereotypes. But every school has ‘those’ kids who fit into the archetypes associated with Langley.
More and more Langley students are concerned about the growth of these degrading stereotypes. “We must try and spread the word about how great the kids here are,” said sophomore Nick Casso.
Others, like sophomore Jaime Terpak, can see both sides of the argument. “Yes and no,” said Terpak. “We have a lot of money and can be snobby, but at the same time we have a lot of mojo and we love to learn.”
I personally think that when it comes to Langley students, we really know how to grab life by the horns and make lemonade out of lemons.
I use these cliches not only to increase my sophistication (and, of course, intelligence) but also to convey that we at Langley all really have a joy for life.
We help out in the community, like we have done with Coach Hess and his daughter, Gianna. We simply care about everyone.
We may have many stereotypes, but to quote my personal idol, pop sensation Ke$ha, “We are who we are.” Haters will hate and lovers will love (more cliches– are they working yet?). We however, are lovers.
That’s what Virginia is all about
Much love,
