A room filled with different signs, information packets and representatives for various colleges. This seems like a great place to help open a student’s eyes to many different opportunities, but are these fairs necessary to attend in order to find the right fit?
While college fairs are helpful, students find information about colleges in many different ways. Some may prefer just looking on the web, some may prefer reading books and some may prefer attending fairs and getting hands out information. This is all up to the student and the path they want to take.
Finding the right college is a different process for every person. Because every student is involved in different things, every student’s college search will consist of different key points. In some cases, a college fair is simply not needed.
I’m not saying a college fair is a waste of time; I’m just saying for some kids it may not be as helpful as others. Each students looks for different things in different colleges, so it cannot be expected that one college fair will meet every students needs. If a student goes to a college fair and leaves with more information and a better understanding of the college process then the college fair has done its job.
