Basketball has been my life ever since I could remember and I was ecstatic when I made Langley’s JV team last year. But this year, as a sophomore, the pressures of school, clubs and Langley basketball caught up to me and forced me to make a decision, which is why I chose to play McLean House League Basketball. I have not regretted my decision.
The first reason why I liked house league this year was that there was only one practice a week for one hour plus one game on the weekend, which was a walk in the park compared to my previous rigorous schedule with two games a week and 2+ hour practices every day but Sunday. This new opening of time allowed me to balance everything else I had to do while at the same time I grew a couple of inches (a huge positive for me since I’m very short).
Another reason why I liked house league so much was because of the girls that were on my team. Even though we all came from different high schools (Langley, McLean, and Potomac) we had one of the strongest bonds I’ve ever seen on a team. My coaches are the ones to thank for our team connection.
My final reason is because it was still extremely competitive and exciting with talented players. Just about every week, I got an email telling me the team rankings which made the drive to win even fiercer and rewarding for every victory, especially during the playoffs.
Even though I liked being on JV, I am glad that I chose to do House League. It wasn’t very demanding, but it was still competitive and fun, which was the perfect match for my very busy schedule.
