With the thought of possible days being added on to the end of the 2013-2014 school year, there are years like this when students who play fall sports are quite disappointed to only get a reduced number of days of summer vacation due to fall sport practices in August. With fall sport tryouts in the first week of August and with this school year set to end on June 25th, fall athletes who feel the same as I do are quite disappointed with only having about 35 days of summer vacation. There may not be much of a way to change this situation for the better, but it would definitely make some of us Saxons happy if there was a way to come up with a solution.
Speaking for all of us, we are thinking to ourselves: too much work and too little break! We spend half of our time every year in school completing homework and studying in addition to participating in extracurricular activities. Don’t we deserve more than just one month of break? While many are annoyed by this absence of a long summer break, others are happy to get back to their routines and see their friends again.
Another added pressure on athletes is that we spend the majority of time on our schoolwork during the school week. It’s the same sequence: wake up around 6:30 or earlier, go to school for about than 7 hours, go to sports practice, get home, eat dinner, start completing numerous hours of homework and then finally go to bed. Many students spend most of their time revolving around school, and now that summer break is so short for fall athletes, the short summer doesn’t make Langley athletes too happy.
