The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee played from November 13 to 15 at McLean Bible Church, and it surpassed my lofty expectations. I had seen the musical performed twice previously, once in New York and once just last year at Ford’s Theater, so I already had a high standard against which to compare the play. The play had many catchy songs–most notably “Pandemonium,”– that made the audience want to sing along, as well as one heartfelt song, called the “I Love You Song.” is one of the most emotional parts of the play and is further upgraded by the magnificent voices of Caroline McQuaig, Jamie Goodson, and Ammad Akbari singing both solo and in unison. My personal favorite part of the musical was the comedy, especially Panch’s (12th grader Nick Regan’s) hilarious role. After the musical concluded and the cast and crew took their bows, there was a touching moment when all the graduating seniors were given flowers, as this would be the last musical of their Langley career. Saxon Stage put on a fantastic show, which demonstrated how outstanding the Langley theater program really is.
