Butlers, maids and the dramatic story lines of the wealthy Crawley/Grantham family keep viewers on the edge of their seats as new scandals continue to throw off the balance of the tight-knit group. Downton Abbey often comes off as a show that only the elderly are interested in, but this is not the case at all. This Julian Fellows production sets the plot in a magnificent estate in Yorkshire, England during the 1920’s, and airs on the Masterpiece channel at 9 o’clock on Sunday nights.
Due to the high number of characters cast in this show, the audience is constantly entertained with different storylines involving love, hate, murder and even rape. Downton Abbey never ceases to keep their viewers intrigued with the storylines of not only the Grantham family, but the nerve-wracking events that surface below the grand living rooms.
This previous season of Downton Abbey dealt with the hardships following a conflict between a maid and a valet. The stakes were high as people were constantly suspected of murder and sent to jail multiple times. Another death shook the household of the Grantham family as the love interest of one of the daughters passed away. Without a husband, this young lady is left on her own with a pregnancy she was determined to keep secret.
New love interests for the two eldest ladies in the show made everyone question their life decisions, as it became evident that love was the most important thing in any family. As weddings were thrown and people promised their lives to each other, the saying “in sickness and in health” began to mean more than ever to the mother and father of the Grantham family as Lord Grantham entered a state of life-threatening illness.
Even though there are short seasons and long breaks, the mysteries reeling from the finale of each season are sure to keep your mind spinning over the hiatus. No matter how hard you try, the writers of this magnificent drama will turn things around on you before you can say “her ladyship.”
