Varsity wrestler and junior, Mo Sahm, has made many sacrifices to become one of Langley’s top wrestlers. Although he does not count calories, Sahm has established a very strict diet. He keeps a food journal to keep track of what he eats of anything from hardboiled eggs to a handful of almonds, and maintains this diet for the entirety of the wrestling season.
The Langley wrestling team practices everyday for two hours after school and Sahm also takes the initiative to run after every practice in order to keep his weight down. His dedication to wrestling has also limited his social life, taking up many weekends with tournaments, leaving little room for socializing.
However, head wrestling coach, Jeff Mye, says that Sahm’s dedication has been worthwhile. “Mo has steadily improved as the season has progressed, and has a shot of competing at the college level in two years,” said coach Mye.
Sahm has also received praise from his cross country coach, Gifford Krivak, a tenth grade English teacher here at Langley. “Being a wrestler, and a long distance runner he has a lot of discipline. He has the fire and tenacity of a great athlete and has great enthusiasm. It is always enjoyable coaching him” said Krivak.
When asked about Sahm’s character coach Mye considered him to be, “A very coachable wrestler and a hard worker”. Due to his dedication, strict diet and hard work Sahm has begun to consider pursuing wrestling in college.
