Tim Tebow is unlike any other professional athlete. No other player has sparked such a nationwide controversy without breaking any laws or winning any championships.
It all started in week 6 of the NFL season, when Tebow took over the starting quarterback position of the Denver Broncos. The Broncos were down 15-0 with three minutes left in the game, when Tebow engineered a record-breaking comeback to win the game: 18-15 in overtime.
That was only the start of the miracle in Denver. Tebow turned a Denver team that started the season 1-4, into a playoff team that defeated the AFC heavyweight Pittsburgh Steelers.
Tim Tebow doesn’t always have–in fact he never has–the greatest stats. He finished the season completing less than half of his passes. But numbers don’t matter as long as you win games. And that’s just what Tim Tebow did, going 7-4 in the regular season.
Doubters were wrong when they began to count Tebow and the Broncos out. Out of Tebow’s eight wins as a starting quarterback this season, six of them have been 4th quarter comebacks. As long as Tebow keeps producing results like he has this season, it doesn’t matter how his numbers look. Under his leadership, the team knows they can win under any circumstance.
However, the most absurd criticism Tim Tebow receives is not even about his statistics. It’s about his faith and morality. Tebow has been ripped for being “too Christian.” Since when is thanking God in an interview worthy of so much hatred and harassment? And if people would just listen to what Tebow has to say, they would recognize his kindness, modesty, and humbleness.
If you want to criticize a professional athlete, criticize Kobe Bryant or Tiger Woods for their extramarital relationships. Criticize the dozens of baseball players who have illegally used steroids. Or criticize the countless athletes that have been arrested for driving drunk. Don’t criticize the guy who spends time before every game to talk to kids with severe medical problems.
