Jay Ives and Leland Jenkins, both seniors, were the only Saxon wrestlers to qualify for the AAA VHSL State Tournament, which was held this weekend at Robinson High School in Fairfax,Virginia. Although neither Ives or Jenkins were able to achieve statewide supremacy in their respective weight classes, they certainly held their own. Jenkins, in fact, managed to finish fifth in the state in his weight class of 126 pounds. While not the first place trophy Jenkins had envisioned, fifth place was still a “good, very good showing,” according to junior wrestler Tate Dulany. “This tournament featured the state’s best, and being top five in the state in your weight class is extremely respectable.” The wrestler who defeated Jenkins in his final match, Colonial Forge’s Michael Hayes, finished third.
