It was a sad end to a great season. Seniors Joey Robinson, Daniel Dixon, Tristan Evans, Nicky Colin Pitts, Kgosi Sargeant, and Zach Sekel played their last Langley basketball game on Feb. 22, while injured senior Austin Vasiliadis helped coach the team. After a win against South Countyin the first round of Regionals, the boys varsity basketball team lost in the second round of Regionals to Edison High School.
In an apt summary of the season, freshman Allison Ochoa summarized the sentiment of manny Langley students when she said, “The season was really interesting with all the buzzer beaters, and the boys played great. The games were really fun to go to, especially the cheers against McLean.”
Freshman Alex De Their echoed Ochoa. “Friday night basketball games were the highlight of my every week,” he said. “The atmosphere was amazing and I got really into the games, rooting for our team to continue their huge district winning streak.”
In a season in which Langley compiled a record of 13-4 and had an eleven-game winning streak, the Saxons pulled together an impressive season punctuated by last minute wins and gutsy defensive plays. Even with the second round loss in the Regional Tournament, the Langley team can hold their heads high.
