Nick: Jeremy Lin is a phenomenon that has taken the NBA by storm. His rise to fame has been well documented among the media, and his play has been nothing short of incredible.
Tommy: Okay, I’ll give you that. But how is it possible that he went several years without being discovered? Until he can win a game of higher magnitude than he already has, he is still a fluke.
Nick: Thirty general managers went years without recognizing his talent, how would I know? And he is proven to be anything but a fluke with his consistent solid performances. He has set records, had a game winning shot, and has made his team better all in this short period of time.
Tommy: There’s the key term Nick, short period of time.
Nick: Yes, but he has carried the Knicks most games, what makes you think it would change?
Tommy: I think people will start watching film on Lin and figure him out. Once they figure out how to stop him, he’ll be much more manageable, and that’s when people will see his true talent.
Nick: I don’t think he can keep his absurd numbers up, but he will still be one of the top ten point guards in the league. Teams have watched film on him, and they’ve tried to keep him out of the lane because he is such a good pick and roll player, but he has shown that he can shoot too.
Tommy: I know Lin’s got great vision, but he forces too many passes. He’s not aware of the shot clock, and it’s causing too many costly turnovers, around 6 a game.
Nick: Yes, he does need to work on his turnovers, but if you’re the Knicks, you can live with that part of his game if he’s solid on all other aspects. Also, he plays over 40 minutes a game, he is bound to turn the ball over every once in a while.
Tommy: Until he can prove to me that he can win a big game and not just a regular season game, then we will talk. But for now, his time in this league is LIN-ited.
